Our Resident Cats

Meet our Special Paws family! Get to know the cats who, for various reasons, call Special Paws Cat Rescue their long-term home. These special felines are a massive part of who we are, and what we do.

Behind the screens

Many cats arrive at our rescue with complex needs. Some are too old or unwell to be rehomed, requiring long-term foster care. Others are simply too young to find their forever homes just yet. We provide these cats with the love, care, and the medical attention they deserve, covering all their expenses and healthcare needs. Here's a small breakdown as to what happens outside of our social media and fundraising publicity.

Their stories

Though not always featured on our social media, our resident cats are at the heart of our daily lives. We understand their individual backgrounds, health conditions, and unique needs. We are dedicated to providing a loving and stable environment tailored to each cat's specific requirements.

How you can help

By supporting Special Paws Cat Rescue, you're helping us provide a safe and loving home for our resident cats. Your support allows us to continue providing the necessities to those cats who remain in our care, and helps us to prepare the younger cats for their future adoption.

Loki

Loki is a 4-5 years old Siamese who came into us along with one of her siblings, she had been diagnosed with having trauma to her brain, no explanation or anything, symptoms similar to an ear infection. We whisked Loki into the vets, where it was determined she had indeed got a brain injury due to trauma, however, she also suffers with Nystagmus - an eye condition involving involuntary eye movement, this involves rapid movement of her pupils when she becomes stressed. For Loki, she lives a stress-free relaxed life in a now permanent home.

Cannon

Cannon is a 9 month old young male who came into us following a big job on a farm, in which they was becoming overrun with cats and kittens. If the females hadn't recently given birth, they was heavily pregnant. Cannon was one of the kittens who was fortunate enough not to attempt crossing a busy main road, which sadly resulted in a few fatalities.

Cannon had chronic diarrhea when he arrived into rescue, and following some faecal testing, it became apparent that Cannon, along with most of the other young kittens had a microscopic parasite named "cryptosporidiosis" which causes an intestinal infection leading to watery, foul smelling diarrhea. This is caused by drinking contaminated water.

Following their diagnosis, all the kittens who required it, received the relevant treatment, and following further faecal tests, all came back clear.

Cannon has remained rather small in size, and has remained in our care for further monitoring. He is a happy, playful and vocal little boy who loves human interaction and toys.

Ocean

Ocean is an amazing, loving Elf Sphynx. Ocean came to us very recently after she became a bit too boisterous for her older sibling. Ocean has settled straight in, sleeping on her foster family's lap, playing with them and has displayed great courage in coming right out of her shell.

Ocean was due to be spayed in the near future, but she has a hernia which does mean the spay does require this to be sorted at the same time, often resulting in a "midline" as opposed to the common "flank" spay position.

Ocean has only arrived with us very recently, and won't be being listed for adoption.

Lagertha

Lagertha came in to us via an owner surrender. Whilst with us, it became swiftly apparent that Lagertha required a dental. Lagertha has recently received her major dental operation, thanks to the massive support received through donations on our social media page. Lagertha is now pain free, eating properly and all round a total different cat since her operation. Lagertha is currently in the recovery stage and we're going to let her remain in her long term foster home through the festive period. We expect Lagertha to be available for adoption early 2026, so keep your eyes peeled! Rest up Laggy, your forever home isn't far away.

Heath

Heath is a large boy, with a lot of trust issues towards both humans and other cats. He was born on the streets, and came to our attention following a few messages notifying us of his presence. Our trapping team soon attended to these reports, and began coordinating a plan to catch him and bring him in to safety.

Once caught, Heath went to stay with one of our specialist feral fosters, who soon began to earn the trust of Heath and eventually he was transferred into a foster home with children on a test basis. Heath defied all odds and the scared, timid, shy little boy was soon jumping on laps to play on games with the children. Heath now leads a life of luxury with access to the whole house, socializing with cats, children and a few other pets. We're so proud of you Heath!

Bruno

Bruno is another feral boy who came into us off the streets. Bruno is still a very nervous little boy, but day by day he is gradually getting there. He is currently in foster with one of our specialized feral fosters. Bruno has also defied all odds and has started trusting people enough to occasionally allow a stroke and fuss or two. Well done Bruno, we are happy to work at your pace, and if you don't quite fully get there, you have a forever home with Special Paws!
